Marietta Schools Foundation is delighted to help support the West Side Elementary Talented and Gifted Program (TAG) grow its first school based community garden. Once the program expands, the students are hoping to grow enough to donate to a local shelter.
Under the guidance of 4th grade Teacher, Toni Greene, TAG is the perfect program for students to discover and develop their gifts and talents.
Says Ms. Greene, “West Side Elementary School, along with the Marietta community will become a learning lab for these students. This type of environment and learning can help students connect the science, social studies, engineering, math, and technology concepts learned in school to what they already know and to something that matters to them. Through these learning experiences, students will become active citizens who feel a sense of accomplishment and a sense of empowerment to make a difference in their community.”
First year West Side Principal Dan McGuire is very enthusiastic about the opportunity to involve the Marietta community in such a worthwhile project that benefits everyone involved.
The Rose Wing West Side Elementary Endowment at the Foundation will provide funding to start the garden. Donations made to this website by parents, staff and community members such as yourself, will allow the community garden to sprout and thrive for years to come.
