MSF Promotes Safer Schools
The Marietta Schools Foundation was pleased to donate over $6,800 to Marietta High School for the purchase of 20 new Stop-The-Bleed kits, and 5 new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Head Athletic Trainer at Marietta High School, Jeff Hopp, was instrumental in bringing the need for more AED’s and STB kits to the attention of the Marietta Schools Foundation.
AEDs are important because they strengthen the Chain of Survival. They can restore a normal heart rhythm in victims of sudden cardiac arrest. New, portable AEDs enable more people to respond to a medical emergency that requires defibrillation. When a person suffers a sudden cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by 7% to 10% for each minute that passes without defibrillation. AEDs save lives.
The goal is to have an AED within 3 minutes of any location on campus. The goal for Stop-The-Bleed kits is one per classroom. MHS Healthcare Science teachers/Athletic Trainers don’t merely provide support on the sports field. Jeff Hopp and his team provided the administration and coaches with CPR, AED, and Stop the Bleed training. It is a district wide effort to facilitate safer schools through focused training and new equipment. The Marietta Schools Foundation was pleased to play a role in making our school system safer.
