DEBBIE WOOLARD SCHOLARSHIP

The Debbie Woolard Scholarship honors her long-time career and legacy as an educator and mentor and is awarded annually to a Marietta High School senior student who has demonstrated high academic success, intellectual curiosity, strong sense of community service with preference given to International Baccalaureate Diploma students or IB Career Certificate students who might have a financial need.

Debbie began her teaching career in Andover, MA after graduating from the University of Tennessee, joining the MHS faculty as a math teacher in 1997.

She taught the full gamut of math courses, algebra to calculus. She then served as IB Director from 2003 to 2020, during which time she led the district’s expansion from a single IB Diploma Program through the authorization of the full IB continuum across grades K-12. She played an important role in IB across Georgia, serving on the Board of Directors of the Association of IB Schools of Georgia for many years. She continues to serve IB schools as a consultant and trainer.

Recognized for her leadership and her passion for helping students,
Debbie is a nationally board-certified teacher, recipient of Marietta City Schools Employee of the Year, the Superintendent’s Award (2-time winner) as well as being named STAR Teacher by the Georgia Department of Education (3-time winner). She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.

She has devoted her life to serving Marietta students and the greater community, and undoubtedly touched thousands of lives. She worked enthusiastically helping students to realize their potential.
